Beverly Blaney has worked in adult and adolescent mental health for almost two decades as a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist in the Department of Psychiatry at Hotel Dieu Hospital. Her areas of specialization include Eating Disorders and Mood and Anxiety Disorders. She also sees a limited number of clients in private practice.
In addition, Beverly Blaney has pursued comprehensive training in a variety of psychodynamic approaches. She completed her Cognitive Behavioural Training at the Beck Institute in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She also has an extensive education in experiential and body process therapies from the Gestalt Institute of Cleveland, Ohio. This training has been complemented by her certification in Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy. The diversity of Beverly Blaney’s qualifications and clinical experience enables her to provide a unique approach to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
Beverly Blaney has also trained in a variety of Meditation practices and courses including the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Program founded by Jon Kabat-Zinn. She has developed and co-leads an MBSR Program tailored to medical students and residents at Queens University and is involved in on-going research in this area.
Beverly Blaney has been practicing Bikram Yoga for 5 years. She completed her teacher’s training in the spring of 2009. She is a strong promoter of utilizing physical process in the service of improving psychological health. Her clinical experience has provided her with a comprehensive understanding of the current psychological challenges of living in western industrialized cultures. She believes that Bikram Yoga in particular provides an effective therapeutic method for people of western cultures who aim to reintegrate Body, Mind, and Soul.
Beverly Blaney is a dedicated teacher and student. She recently completed her Masters in Education in service of increasing her comprehension of learning and her effectiveness as a teacher.
